The Bar Code Tattoo

Individuality vs. Conformity

Identity vs. Access

Freedom vs. Control

The bar code tattoo. Everybody's getting it. It will make your life easier, they say. It will hook you in. It will become your identity.

But what if you say no? What if you don't want to become a code? For Kayla, this one choice changes everything. She becomes an outcast in her high school. Dangerous things happen to her family. There's no option but to run...for her life.

This book begins very quickly and captures you till the very end.
I found that you are able to understand how this book goes, if you think about it how far off are we from the bar code tattoo that not only tracks everything you do, but tells you things about your DNA and medical records that you dont even know yet?
This book shows how we evolved from SSN, Drivers License, Credit cards- to future 2020-2025 where the have e-cards, which stored all their money- paper money no longer existed. Cell phones became a thing of the past since everything became electronic. The bar code tattoo became something that anyone who turned 17 would get, at first it wasn't mandatory, but that soon changed. The government was over taken by a company called Global-1 who ran everything from the food you put on your table to your money and even your health. The bar code tattoo was just suppose to store your banking, and ID you except it stored much more than anyone realized.

Follow Kayla along her journey to resist the bar code tattoo and the group she joins called the decoders, watch as people she trust turn their back on her, stab her in the back, and even traitors among them. This story will stay with you and you will be rushing to read the next 2 books in the series, I am currently waiting for the other 2 books from the library. But i will be posting again soon !

The Program

Teen suicide is an epidemic, and the only solution is The Program.

Sloane knows better than to cry in front of anyone, especially her parents or at school... If they think she's depressed for any reason shell be sent to the Program and be wiped clean.
They call them the "returners" they dont remember anyone or anything from their past, they are new people, they dont even dress like themselves anymore...

What is really going on in there? Sloane and her boyfriend James can't help but wonder as they have heard their friend Lacey who was taken to the Program 6 weeks ago is now back-- does she remember them? does she remember her boyfriend Miller?

The 3 of them, Sloane, James, and Miller decide to go to the school where "the returners" have to attend, seeing as too much stimulus on their brains could cause total malfunction. They want to see if Lacey remembers them, sadly she does not... For Miller it becomes to much to take and ends his life....

Now Sloane and James have to not only carry on living like nothing is wrong, but have to hide the grief setting in from losing their friend.
James can't take it and cant hide it anymore, the school notices, and his dad notices... They call the program and he's sent away.
Now Sloane is left all alone-- she tries to carry on like nothing is wrong while inside she is dying.. She goes to the wellness center, which is a place for returners and non returners to "hang-out" in a safe place for them and everyone else. Except Sloane is there hoping to see James. One day he walks in and looks at her like she is a stranger.. To him she is nobody, they never had a past, and never loved her.
Sloane is unable to accept that and begins to fall apart, that night she screams at her parents and takes off- she is going to end her life but she can't go through with it...

Fast forward: her mother calls the Program on her, sloane is sent to the Program, and she is wiped clean. The things that go on are unthinkable- you must voluntarily take the meds they give you or your forcefully injected- you talk about things you dont want to talk about- then after your given another med and stumble down the hallway to your bedroom. Where the handler that gives you the creeps is standing there with that creepy smile. Blackout... Wake up in your bed straped down, being told your a danger to yourself...Blackout... Wake up to the nurse telling you its time to eat. What happened to the creepy handler ? Did he rape you?

I WONT GIVE AWAY TOO MUCH! But this is a must read for any suspense, sic-fi, young adult fan! A series and I'm currently reading the second book! Just as good!!
